Costs of living for a semester

International students usually stay in the domitory on campus in single rooms in apartments of three students.

We can make a reservation for you if you want. Costs per room and person are about 200 € per month plus a security deposit of 200 € in the beginning (which you get back, of course)

Monthly costs for an international visiting student are about 600 € but this depends on the student himself.

There will be a social benefit fee paid to the student's union of 71,90 € per semester (half year) including a free train ticket for the hole semester.

Information about Schmalkalden itself

Schmalkalden is a small place (about 20.000 inhabitants) next to the Thuringian forest. It has a lovely old centre and a castle in the city itself.

Dates

Classes in the spring term start end of March and end in July, after that there are three weeks of exams. There are programmes all taught in English as well.

Classes in the Autumn term start in October and end in February, after that there are three weeks of examinations.

Programme for exchange students

The international Office of our university offers a special programm for international (exchange) students.

This includes meetings, parties, events, excursions of german language and culture. Nearly all offers are free of charge, only a few require a small contribute by the students (3 to 4 day excursions for example).

If you indicate on the application form that we should reserve the accommodiation, we will immediately do so.
