Information for foreign students
The admission to study at the University of Applied Sciences Schmalkalden derives from the Thuringian University Act and is in accordance with the general terms of the Federal Republic of Germany, which require:
• the general qualification for university entrance
• the DSH - "Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang" (German language exam for university entrance)
Enrolment generally takes place at the beginning of the winter semester of each academic year. If you are admitted to study immediately, or if an assessment test at the Thuringian Staatliches Studienkolleg in Nordhausen (or elsewhere) is required, can only be decided after receipt of your complete application documents.
The following application documents are required:
• informal application stating the reasons you wish to study
• application form (see pdf file)
• CV with 2 passport photos
• birth certificate
• proof of the general qualification for university entrance (officially authenticated copies of certificates, in German or English)
• proof of a monthly income of at least 500 euros to meet expenses
Applications are to be sent directly to the International Office.
Foreign students of our partner universities and study programme students who want to study one or two semesters at the University of Applied Sciences Schmalkalden are, as a rule, admitted as auditing students. For this only a student ID of the home university is required.
German courses for foreign students
The International Office offers extracurricular German courses for exchange students of our international partner universities. Furthermore, in summer they are offered an intensive course "German as a Foreign Language".
A DSH (German language exam for university entrance) course or exam is not offered at the University of Applied Sciences Schmalkalden. Foreign applicants wishing to study full-time at Schmalkalden must therefore have already passed this exam at another university before application.
Our International Office offers a comprehensive support programme for international students at the University of Applied Sciences Schmalkalden. Besides German courses, this programme includes excursions, study trips, parties and much more.
