Frequently asked questions
What is the language of the lectures in the regular degree programs?
These lectures are in German. The English lectures offered by the faculty are the ones listed above.
Are all lectures listed in the curricula available to me?
In general all lectures are offfered either in the winter semester or in the summer semester. Usually, odd numbered semesters (1, 3, 5) are winter semesters and even numbered semesters (2, 4, 6) are summer semesters.
Please note also that depending on the schedule many lectures run in parallel - specifically if you wish to mix lectures from different degree programs or semesters. If you are in doubt whether a lecture is offered during your stay, contact the international coordinator.
Where can I find module descriptions?
Here is a link to the module descriptions: http://www.fh-schmalkalden.de/schmalkaldenmedia/alle_module-p-193.html.
How can I do an examination
Usually the lectures end with a written examination. Exams are offered in a three week period following the lectures. For some German lectures the exams are offered in English on request.
What are the prerequisitions for a specific module?
Prerequisitions and recommendations are given in the module descriptions.
How many credit points do I get?
The credit points associated with a lecture are given in the curricula tables and in the module descriptions.
How many lectures can I attend?
There is no restriction on the number of lectures you can attend (depending on availability - see question 2). But take into account that you might need more time for preparation and further study of a subject given in a foreign language.
Can I do a final project or a thesis?
This is possible, but requires some preparation. Please contact the international administrator.
